The British Touring Car Championship, after a meeting with the organizer TOCA and the BTCC teams at the end of the season, made some minor rule changes for the races next year.
"It is clear that the BTCC regulations work extremely well," explains Alan Gow, Boss of TOCA. “However, we are always looking for further opportunities for improvement. Although they are minor changes, they will certainly add some interesting new elements to the championship next season. ”
After a successful introduction, the drivers will use all three Goodyear tire compounds on race day in Snetterton in 2020. This will be repeated on the Croft race track, which was renewed earlier this year.
The championship has also changed the way tires are nominated. The teams can now freely choose in which race of the race day the option set is to be used, which makes it possible to change the strategy.
The maximum success ballast is increased to 60 kg and then reduced to tenth place in steps of 6 kg.
The BTCC also plans to test a new qualification format in Snetteron. Instead of the usual 30-minute session, drivers now have a 25-minute time window in which to record their lap times. The ten fastest participants then continue with a ten-minute pole position session to determine the starting positions.
